Access to Clean, Portable Water

The RFA and RA jointly committed to providing a sponsorship amount of N$12 million at the ceremony marking the handover of the RA Head Office building in June 2019 to the national emergency drought relief request through His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Hage Geingob. The expenditure of this amount was carried over two financial periods, with the remainder of the social investment projects implemented in the 2021/2022 Financial Year.

The funds were utilised to install solar water pumps and water tanks at boreholes in 10 regions, The ceremonial handover of the boreholes took place in October 2020 at Ombuu in Gam, Omaheke Region, and Okauwa in Kunene Region. RFA is committed to supporting the government’s call for support towards social upliftment.

The RFA particularly recognises the importance of water as a basic need for human consumption, agriculture, and industrial development. The water points which benefited from the donation were identified and prioritised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform as part of the EMU initiatives. Apart from the Ombuu borehole, four other boreholes were rehabilitated within the Omaheke region.

The rehabilitation was designed to provide potable water to support human life and animal husbandry, thereby contributing to the social capital of some of the most marginalised communities in Namibia.
